Dr. Ryan S. Coles is a social scientist and venture architect focused on entrepreneurship, emerging technology, emerging markets, and sustainable business creation.

Ryan’s founder-executive experience includes serving as founding CEO of Pantera, a smart-lens startup, and founding COO of fintech company Nomyx. His work has also extended into technology commercialization with major U.S. corporations including SpaceX, IBM, and Constellation Energy, as well as advisory work with Old Silver Venture Capital.
THE SCIENTIST
Studying how organizations succeed.
Ryan’s academic work explores entrepreneurship, organizations, strategy, and the social foundations that influence how ventures emerge and grow.
His research has appeared in publications including Strategy Science, Strategic Management Journal, Administrative Science Quarterly, and Organization Science. He also received back-to-back Academy of Management proceedings “Best Paper” recognitions in 2022 and 2023.

Recognition along the way.
In 2024, Ryan appeared in Innovation in Connecticut, a documentary recognized at twelve film festivals. In 2025, he was named a Top 10 Connecticut Innovator by Hartford Business Journal and one of FounderSquare’s Top 25 Founders of the Year.
